GIS Analyst - Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization - Albuquerque, New Mexico

The Mid-Region Council of Governments seeks a full-time staff member to join the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) as an entry to mid-level GIS Analyst.

This position is an opportunity to join a talented and creative team supporting transportation planning in our region and develop your GIS skills. Our GIS users create high-quality data and visuals, work in Desktop, Online, and Enterprise environments, and collaborate with agencies throughout the metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

This position will involve GIS support of all of MRMPO’s short and long-range planning efforts, including opportunities to support our member agencies. These responsibilities will involve data and projects related to transportation, socioeconomics, and other critical regional planning topics. Duties will include: 1) making static and interactive maps; 2) collecting, creating, editing, and maintaining critical datasets; 3) analysis; and 4) presenting project results

Skills

The ideal candidate will have the following: experience in desktop geographic information systems (GIS) such as ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro and / or QGIS; experience in online mapping platforms such as ArcGIS Online; experience working with tabular data in Excel; problem-solving skills; and strong written and verbal communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates who have data presentation skills, graphic design skills, computer programming skills, experience with linear referencing systems, experience with transportation or socioeconomic data, and/or experience with SQL databases, including ArcGIS Enterprise. Creativity in problem-solving and a willingness to innovate (as part of a team and individually) is highly valued. On-the-job learning is central to the success of this position; it is not necessary for applicants to have work experience in all areas.

Qualifications

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in geography (including GIS, GIScience, GIT, etc.), planning, or a related field. Master’s Degree or at least two (2) years of professional experience related to the responsibilities and skills listed above is preferred. 

Salary/Benefits

Salary will be commensurate with experience and is within the range of $49,920 - $59,280 annually. This position offers full benefits including health, dental and vision coverage, vacation and sick leave, group life insurance and enrollment in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) of New Mexico. Additional benefits are optional including flexible spending plans and gym memberships. This position does not offer a remote option.
